Typical for this
region are the enceintes or camps: massive fortified enclosures,
perhaps for protection of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood,
constructed in the early Iron Age from enormous stones. The walls are
often up to 4 m. high, and some enclosures have several concentric
ramparts.
Camp de Soubeyran faces south on a hill SW of St. Cezaire-s-Siagne, and
was perfectly sited for surveillance of the valley.
