Achavanich

This unique site in Caithness is not a megalithic ring but a horseshoe. Originally there were 54 stones in a horseshoe 68.6 m wide. On the western side 27 stones are still erect, averaging one meter in height, with a tall terminal two meters high at the southern end. On the east side 14 stones remain, that are taller than the west, and with the slabs radially placed like the cogs of a wheel. Unfortunately the picture shows only six stones of the west side of the ring.
